It’s taken until the middle of October, but the steamy St. Louis summer has finally turned into fall. And that means the next month will provide some of the best racing weather of the year. Everyone on the Big River Racing team is ready to take advantage of it and I hope you are too!
The racing around the area has already begun. There’s a lot of great races and make sure to check out Big River’s racing calendar for more info about area races. Last weekend unofficially started the St. Louis fall half and full marathon season with the MO Cowbell Half in St. Charles. Big River Racing had a great showing with Andrea Karl capturing another marathon title (She won the GO! St. Louis marathon this past spring) in 2:55:53. It was another dominating performance from Karl won beat the next woman by over 10 minutes. And that woman was new Big River Racing team member Meike Kuester with a solid performance. Another team member, Marshall Phares, won the men’s marathon pulling away in the second half of the race finishing in 2:42:01.
In the half, Heidi Schmidt led tape to tape capturing the women’s title in 85:15. And on the men’s side, Big River Racing went 2,3,4. Mark Paulson finished just behind the winner, Mike Aitken, in 72:59. Matt Dirnbeck and Brandon Janosky captured third and fourth respectively. All around Big River Racing had a dominating performance.
That bodes well for the team heading into the next several weeks of races. There will be a big contingent of Big River Racers cruising through Downtown tomorrow for the GO! Halloween half marathon and 10k. They’ll be led by team member and Marathon Olympic trials qualifier Matt O’Connor. Also racing this weekend is team member Tom Albes debuting in the Chicago marathon.
Following this weekend’s races will be the Rock n’ Roll half marathon the following weekend and the St. Louis track club half on November first in Clayton. Other team members will be heading out of town for some big fall marathons. Matt Kruger and Brad Chronister are heading to Indianapolis for the monumental full and half marathon (Nov. 7) and Matt Lawder will be in New York on Nov. 1 for the NYC Marathon. Hopefully these guys can follow the lead of their teammates from the MO’ Cowbell.
Good luck in all of your fall races and we hope to see you out on the race course!
