    Frostbite, Saint Patrick’s Day, and More: Recapping February and March

    Brandon Schnieder kicked off the month of February with a 2nd place AG finish at the Castlewood Cup 15k (1:13:27) on February 3rd. On February 10th a group of Big River team members raced the Mesa Marathon. Kasey Gonyias ran her debut marathon in 3:12:47, earning her 6th in her age group in a competitive field. Cassie Zehenny set a PR with a finish time of 3:14. (Both women qualified for the Boston Marathon.) Preston Jordan finished the race in 3:36:03. Mike Flynn was also in Arizona to take on the Black Canyon 100k. His 16:46:40 finish time earned him a Western States Qualifier.

    Gabriel Sison took home 2nd place in the master’s division of the Love Chocolate Half Marathon in Savannah (1:39:31.) The NEXT day he ran a 1:55:20 at the Daytona 2 beach Half Marathon. Michael McCuddy traveled to California for the Ventura Marathon and earned a BQ in his debut marathon (3:02:39.)  Brandon Dimitri took 5th overall at the Cowtown Half Marathon with a speedy finish time of 1:11:24. Nick Vollmer broke 5:00 in the mile, running a 4:56 at the Jefferson College Viking Mile Time Trial. Leah Koch was the first female finisher at the Run for Your Beads 5k with a time of 22:12. Sadie Smith and Shane traveled to Cape Girardeau for the One and Done race. Shane ran a 5:47 and Sadie ran a 5:48 (new state AG record.)

     

    February also saw the conclusion of the Frostbite and Snowball racing series.

    Frostbite 3k Finishers:

    Matt McGinnis: 17:18 (1st AG & PR, 2nd AG for the series)

    Jon Petter: 17:36 (3rd AG & 2nd AG for the series)

    Sadie Smith: 18:42 (2nd female & 1st AG for the series)

    Ron Patrick: 19:49 (1st AG & 1st AG for the series)

    Connor Walters: 19:57 (1st AG & 4th AG for the series)

    Ashley Crannage: 20:42 (1st AG & 1at AG for the series)

    John Kertz: 21:31 (3rd AG & 3rd AG for the series)

    Denise Buehrer: 31:41 (3rd AG for the series)

    ** 15K, Michelle Dillion: 1:14:46 (2nd AG & 1st AG for the series)

    Snowball 5 Mile Finishers:

    Connor Walters: 31:48 (1st AG & PR, 4th in AG for the series)

    Emma Mueller: 35:38 (4th AG and 1st in AG for the series)

     

    On March 23rd, Gabriel Sison finished 1st in his AG at the Sam Costa Quarter Marathon in Carmel, IN (45:54.) Sadie Smith was the 2nd female finisher at the B&A Trail Marathon in Annapolis (2:56:55.) Matt Lima and Michael Dwyer participated in the Spewak Racing Chain of Rocks 6k the same weekend. Matt ran a 21:57 and Michael a 24:05.

     

    And it wouldn’t be a March recap without Saint Patrick’s Day race results! Stephanie Pruitt got 1st in her AG at Tollen’s Top of the Morning 5k with a time of 21:07. Jen Bertucci continued her dominance of the Holy Infant Shamrock Shuffle, winning the race once again with a time of 19:11. (Her daughter got 2nd place!) Allison Wakefield was the 2nd female to finish the Time to Paddy Half Marathon with a time of 1:39. Brandon Schnieder was 4th OA and 1st in his AG at the Cottleville Shamrock Run (19:21.) Ron Patrick finished 1st in his AG at the same race (21:26.) Jon Petter won the Chesterfield Shamrock 10 (38:37) and Connor Walters came in 2nd overall with a new PR (39:30.)  Mike Dwyer raced to a new PR and 3rd place AG finish at the St. paddy’s Creve Coeur half Marathon (1:32:05.)

    David O’Gara: 25:11 (2nd AG & 5th OA)

    Matt Kruger: 25:21 (1st AG & 6th OA)

    Luke O’Connor: 26:12 (3rd AG & 11th OA)

    Zach Legenzoff: 26:35 (3rd AG & 14th OA)

    Benjamin Westhoff: 29:14 (1st AG, PR)

    Steve Moore: 29:20

    Matt McGinnis: 29:24 (PR)

    Jen Hannigan: 29:46 (2nd female OA)

    Corum Hughes: 31:09 (1st 5 mile race)

    Sarah Kruger: 31:42 (6th female)

    Shane Briscuso: 34:23 (2nd AG)

    Stephanie Pruitt: 34:25 (PR)

    Michael McCuddy: 34:26

    John Kertz: 35:36 (PR & 3rd AG)

    Emma Mueller: 35:36 (3rd AG)

    Ashley Crannage: 35:37 (3rd AG)

    Michelle Dillon: 39:36 (1st AG)

    A group of racing team members traveled to Chicago to participate in the Shamrock Shuffle 8k, all running incredibly fast times. Matt Kruger PR’d and was 3rd in his AG (of 1,431 runners) with a time of 24:59, Brandon Dimitri ran a PR of 25:32, and Ben Gasper finished in 26:00.

    Big River Racing is about running in its purest form. We encompass racing and pushing one’s limits, accepting anyone who shares our passion for running. The team is a dedicated group of like-minded individuals who train, race and socialize with the goal of improving the St. Louis running community through advocacy, openness and volunteerism. The team exists to support runners from post-collegiate athletes to those relatively new to the sport and anyone in between.
