Sunny Gilbert “ran” her first 5K when she was three months old (pushed in a stroller while her dad raced). And she has been running ever since. A four-year varsity letter winner and 14-time All-State performer in track and cross country at Rockwood Marquette High School, landed her a spot on the roster of the Mizzou track team. There she went on to earn Big XII All-Conference honors in indoor and outdoor track all four years, two-time All-American honors, and run the 800m leg of the NCAA Div. 1 National Championship Distance Medley Relay. After college, she added swimming and biking to the mix. After winning the USAT Amateur National Championships, she became an elite triathlete and competed for six years with the best in the world, specializing in the half-iron distance. After retiring from elite triathlon racing, she went back to running, competing in her first marathon, lowering her half-marathon, 10K, and 5K PRs in the process, and discovering trail running. These days you can find her getting dirty in any number of local and regional trail running races.
