Julie was born and raised in St. Louis. After running cross country and track in high school (and loving being part of a team), she decided to go it alone in undergrad at Mizzou, and she ran her first marathon when she was 20 years old. After joining Big River’s Racing Team in 2006, Julie was reminded how powerful a group dynamic can be, and she readily embraced having people to run with regularly again. With the help of Big River’s cofounder Ben Rosario, her teammates, and her partner, Carter Snow, she was able to train hard and injury free for several years, with the result of an Olympic Trials qualifier in the marathon. Julie coached high school girls cross country for five years and was happy to share her passion for the sport with the next generation of athletes. Now she is working on her master’s degree in counseling in the evenings and her main goals are to get out the door for a run in the morning and stay injury-free while hopefully soon running some “next-phase-of-life” PR’s.
