The summer months can be a slow season for racing, but the Big River crew had some impressive performances during these warm months:
Mara Horwitz ran a new marathon PR (3:39:09) at Revel Rockies on June 3rd. On the same day, Stephanie Pruitt was the 4th female and 1st in her age group at the Run for BONIFEST 5k with a time of 21:01. A week later, Stephanie was the 1st female finisher at the Route 66 10k (43:21), and a week after that, she was once again 1st in her age group at the Glen Carbon Covered Bridge 5k (20:27). On the same day, Mara Horwitz set a PR at the Super Fast Half Marathon with a time of 1:42:35, and Sadie Smith took 2nd overall/ 1st female at the Zip Code Marathon with a time of 2:58:33.
On July 1st, Connor Walters was the 2nd overall finisher at the Cheyenne Firecracker 10k, coming in at 42:26. On July 4th, Jacqueline McCormick ran the Boone City Independence Day 2 Mile Run in 13:55, earning her 1st place in her age group. Connor Walters was 1st in his age group at the Chesterfield Starts and Strips 5k (19:54.) Sadie Smith was the 1st female in the Foot Traffic Flat Marathon with a time of 3:10:03. Later in the month, Rachel Ament won the Deerfield High School Alumni Cross Country Race.
On the last weekend in July, racing team members traveled to Oregon. Julie Lossos- Snow was the 2nd female finisher in the Jack and Jill’s Downhill Marathon with a time of 3:01. The next day, Mara Horwitz ran a new PR of 3:29:03, and Mike Flynn ran a PR of 3:44:50 at the Sunday edition of the race. Closer to home, Gretchen Brune ran the Kimmswick 5k with a finish time of 23:39.
Connor Walters and Sadie Smith ran the Strides for Hope 5k on August 12th; Connor came in 2nd overall (19:25) and Sadie was 3rd (19:26). On August 6th, Stephanie Pruitt was the 1st overall female at the Fleet Feet Flat Five with a time of 35:16. She was also the 1st female at the St. Paul Strassenlauf 10k (43:36) on August 26th.
On September 10th, Zach Legenzoff ran a PR of 33:59 at the Plaza 10K. On the same day, Sadie Smith won the Sundance to Spearfish Marathon with a time of 2:54:32, and Alex Schenk ran a new PR of 3:00:41 at the Tunnel Light Marathon.
One week later, Matt Lima ran a new PR of 2:57 at the Air Force Marathon. Brandon Dimitri was 2nd overall in the half with a new PR of 1:09, and Stephanie Pruitt was 1st in her age group with a time of 1:35:48. On the same day, Matt and Luis Kruger won the Dogtown Doggy Dash in a time of 16:30. Elaine Sims was the first female to finish in a time of 23:41.
Gabe Sison had a fabulous showing at the Show Me State Games, taking gold in the 200, 1500, and 3000, silver in the 100, and bronze in the 4×100 relay.
On September 23rd, Jim Yount completed the dual challenge at the Eagle Pride 5k and 1 mile. On September 24th, Jenn Hannigan earned a huge PR of 4:36:24 at the IRONMAN 70.3 in Augusta. She was 2nd in her age group, 5th female amateur, and the 19th female overall. On September 24th in Germany, Sadie Smith completed the Berlin Marathon with a time of 2:58:50. Sarah Kruger finished in 3:30:03—one day after completing the inline skating marathon!
